Biography
Adv. John Chuma is the Founder and Managing Partner of Lawgical Attorneys. He is a highly accomplished Advocate of the High Court of Tanzania and an experienced tax consultant with over 10 years of professional experience in tax litigation, corporate advisory, regulatory compliance, and commercial transactions.
Before founding Lawgical Attorneys, Adv. Chuma worked with Ernst & Young (EY) for several years and was seconded to EY Kenya, the Nairobi office, where he gained extensive experience advising major corporations, institutions, and investors on complex tax and regulatory matters. His work covered corporate tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), withholding tax, tax structuring, tax audits, tax compliance, and mergers and acquisitions.
Adv. Chuma has provided legal and tax advisory services to local and multinational on a wide range of direct tax, indirect tax, and customs matters. He represents clients before the Tax Revenue Appeals Board (TRAB), the Tax Revenue Appeals Tribunal, the High Court of Tanzania, and the Court of Appeal of Tanzania in tax-related disputes, including matters involving tax assessments, TRA audits, objections, appeals, customs disputes, and compliance-related issues in various sectors including electricity project, manufacturing, mining, tourism, telecommunications, insurance and agriculture.
His practice further extends to corporate advisory and regulatory compliance, where he assists clients in structuring transactions, managing tax exposure, responding to regulatory inquiries, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws. He is known for combining strong technical tax knowledge with practical commercial judgment, enabling clients to make informed and legally sound business decisions.
As Managing Partner of Lawgical Attorneys, Adv. Chuma provides strategic leadership to the firm and oversees the delivery of high-quality legal and tax advisory services to corporate and individual clients. His leadership reflects the firm's commitment to professionalism, practical solutions, client service, and integrity.
